Married Woman Seeks Partner

Other married women daydream about beach vacations and jewelry. I daydream about eating dinner with my husband in the kitchen at 7pm.

My husband works crazy hours. He is freelance, so when he is working (which he has done pretty steadily for several years, yay!) he can leave the house as early as 7am and get home close to 10pm. I go to bed at 9:30pm. We’ve lived with this schedule for more than a year. And sometimes he is out of town for what seems like years. I knew this when we got married, so while I do complain sometimes (I cannot help myself) I did know what I signed on for.

As I get older this is getting harder to bear. For the past ten days he has been between jobs and it has been fantastic. The difference is amazing. I come home and there is dinner and he made it and we eat in the kitchen. And it wasn’t even frozen first!! The joy that this brings me is incredible. To have someone who is there for me is wonderful — and it makes me want even more of it.

His new job starts soon and, while I am grateful he is working, I do wonder what it would be like if he did something else – something that allowed for a more consistent schedule and more time together. We talked about this and he said that I probably needed a housewife. Someone who could be around and listen to me. I think he may be right!

Count your blessings. Time with your family is something that people can take for granted until they don’t have it. Cherish the now and be mindful of what is good in your life. There is probably a lot.

Mary–as my husband starts working for the Obama campaign as of June 1, I’ll effectively be a “widow” as well for the next 6 months. We need to make regular plans for hiking, dining, philosophizing, etc. Call me.
